"God is glorified as His people unite in harmonious action."
(The Adventist Home, p. 179)
Operation Global Rain is a world-wide lay-led initiative to start the New Year intentionally involved in prayer. Take a moment to look at the video below, then ask yourself the question, 'How can I best get involved?'
Pastor Ian Sweeney, President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the UK and Ireland is committing himself to a particular time of personal devotion and prayer. His invitation is for you to join him. "What I am asking of the BUC membership is to devote their personal devotion time to praying for those persons whom they know who have not accepted Christ. I am also asking that the Church members pray for their pastors, church boards and churches."
During these 10 days you may want to set a standard for the year by:
♦ Choosing a convenient time to pray together. Set aside one hour each day for united prayer, if possible.
♦ Begining and end your group prayer time with praise and thanksgiving. Choose an applicable psalm to pray through.
♦ Praying short sentence prayers so each person can pray more than once and to allow for the Holy Spirit to impress you how to pray.
♦ Make your time more powerful by spending it in prayer rather than in discussion.
♦ Set aside personal, private time with God in addition to the group prayer times.
♦ Consider some type of fasting, such as from TV, secular music, movies, the Internet, or desserts. Use the extra time to pray and read your Bible. Ask God to reveal Himself to you.
♦ Ask your pastor about promoting the 10 days of prayer at your church by sharing testimonies of how God has worked through united prayer. On both Sabbaths during the 10 days institute a special prayer focus.
♦ Ask God to show you five people to pray for during the 10 days and beyond.
Church Growth Director, Pastor Eglan Brookes is enthusiastically committed to the project. He challenges: "Let's start 2012 with a special time of prayer so that this year will truly be different. As part of the General Conference (GC) Revival and Reformation initiative, the World Church’s Executive Committee at the 2010 Annual Council held in Silver Spring, Maryland, United States, voted to make Operation Global Rain’s (OGR) 10 days of prayer an annual global event each January.
Here at the BUC we would like to join with our world family and support the GC Revival and Reformation initiative over 4th -14th January. Below you will find suggested issues that you, along with your church, could use to form your prayer diary during this powerful time of Prayer. You may also wish to register as part of the world initiative using the links on the left - or click on the World Church link to get more ideas and a wealth of resources.
